Seriously. She was kept locked in a tower by a crazy witch, isolating her from all of the world. Rapunzel has spent her life under the thumb of an abusive mother who basically told her how evil everybody else in the world is, and yes, didn't give her shoes. It's honestly a miracle she can read, or interact with anybody. That's part of the reason I respect her so much. She's who she is, as sweet and wonderful as she is, in spite of her crazy mom.
