[ Derek watches him go, and flexes his hands a bit, following after a moment. ] Don't know. No one's ever knocked on my door.

Well that's just a crying shame.

You want a ginger beer? Or water?

Beer's fine. [ And this is weird, this is too easy. Derek doesn't know what to do with his hands or with himself; he wasn't expecting Stiles to just be... Stiles. If he's completely honest with himself, he was expecting to grovel, just a little bit, even. It's like Stiles wants him here, but that can't be the truth, can it? ]

[He pops back into the living room with two brown bottles of ginger beer, and two plates full of pad thai. It's not hard to balance all of it with such big hands, after all.]

Sit. I just gotta get to a save point and then we'll eat.

[garou]

[ Derek takes his place on the couch, accepting his beer and his plate, nodding to the TV as he takes a drink. ] What are you playing?

I don't think it really has a name. Tony Stark made it for me, along with the game system.

[It kinda looks like Animal Crossing, but Stiles' avatar is running around with a red-hooded cape, a domino mask, and a big S on his chest. (S for Stiles, what else?) And he's running errands for other super heroes, all fairly generic-looking. And he's also making money for a guy in red and gold armor...]

It's fun, though.

[ Derek nods, watching Stiles play. ] It looks like it.

[He steers the figure into what looks like an entrance to a cave. Yup. His "base" is totally a Bat-Cave. Don't ever, ever tell Batman. And he goes through the motions of saving his progress, while cutesy music plays. Finally he's done, and he puts down the controller.]

Okay! Pad thai time. Thanks, Derek. I think this is the first time you've brought me food.

...Wait, you're not trying to poison me, are you?

[garou]

[ Derek watches all this with a tiny level of fascination. It's really well done, for the tech they have on the turtle, and if he was into that kind of thing... well. He'd want one, too.

He looks sharply at Stiles when he speaks, though, frowning. ] No. Why would I?

I don't know! Maybe to get back at me for answering the door pantsless.

[Or having a stupid, unrequited crush that's never going away, and being such a loser. That could be a good reason.]

[garou]

I didn't know you were going to answer the door pantsless, that makes no sense. [ Derek reaches over and takes a bite from Stiles' plate. ] See? No poison.

[skybluejeep]

This is true.

[He pretends to sniff it once, and narrow his eyes before taking a bite, before putting a hand to his throat and croaking dramatically, eyes rolling back in his head.]

Erk! It's...it's too delicious. And Derek has done something nice. I'm dying of kindness, help, help.

[garou]

Ha. Ha. [ And he does a fairly decent job of hiding how much that hurts. ]

[He just laughs, and digs into his pad thai properly now.]

Seriously though. Thanks for this.

[garou]

You're welcome. [ He tries to show how much he means those two words, watching him dig in.

He's too scared to ask what he came here to ask. He thinks he always will be. ]

[He turns to Derek, and lets a little smile curl his lips up, before digging back in.

God. He's got it so bad. Get over it, get over it, get over it...just because he's being nice to you, Stilinski, doesn't mean a thing. He's said a billion times, just friends. This is the kind of thing friends do. It's nothing more than that, and never will be anything more than that.]

So, how's the job going?

[garou]

Fine. [ He grows a little quieter at that. ] Not as interesting, without Erica around. But it's good.

[skybluejeep]

...Yeah.

[He glances at Derek's profile, before going back to his noodles.]

I'm glad you have a job you like. That's important.

[garou]

It's alright. [ He shrugs a shoulder. ] It's not... what I'd like to do.

[skybluejeep]

Oh?

[His heart skips a beat, because he's never heard Derek talk about this.]

What would you like to do? If you say anything other than lumberjack, you're wasting your life.

[garou]

[ No one has, not since New York, and Derek knows this, hears Stiles' heart skips a beat and thinks maybe he'll understand why I'm telling him.

He takes a bite, chewing thoughtfully, before answering. ] In New York, I was a paramedic. So maybe that. My first year of college, I was majoring in history. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, it was just something I wanted to do.

[He blinks at that, and knowing everything he does about Derek, his heart melts. And he thought his crush couldn't possibly get worse.]

Well, you read everything you get your hands on. I'm not surprised by the history major. And...I bet you look dead sexy in a paramedic uniform.

[garou]

[ He grimaces slightly. ] I did have a couple people ask me to perform mouth to mouth on them.

[skybluejeep]

[He snorts a bit with laughter.]

I can just imagine.

Although...honestly? If you were my medic, and I was in pain, and you glared at me with your eyebrows, I'd be a lot less inclined to whine. But I'd feel safe. I'd know I was in good hands.

[garou]

[ They'd been conscious, at the time, even!

Derek looks up at Stiles, at that, and he doesn't know how to feel. Confused, a little angry that Stiles might be lying (but, no, his heart seems steady, aside from the usual upticks Stiles gets when he's around Derek), hopeful, raw. Because, really, at that time in his life, that was all he wanted. He wanted people to feel safe, to be okay, to help save lives or at least let them cling to it a little longer until he could get them to someone who could save them. Now, his goal was to just stay alive himself.

Hearing someone say that they'd feel safe around him, hearing someone from home say that, someone who wasn't his sister and was therefore obligated to, it was like a punch to the gut. His heart even seized a little bit, his chest aching for a long moment. ] Yeah?

[ And it's lame, that that's all he can say, and he knows it, but he also doesn't know what else to. ]
